Three held at airport for smuggling gold worth Rs 74 lakh

Three persons have been arrested at the IGI airport here for allegedly smuggling into the country gold valuing about Rs 74 lakh.

Of the three arrested, two had arrived here yesterday while another person had come today from Dubai.

The three smugglers, who hail from Delhi, were intercepted by customs officials after their arrival at the airport here, a customs official said.

On detailed examination of their baggage, gold wires and jewellery weighing 2.930 kg were recovered from them, the official said.

The total value of the gold wires is assessed to Rs 73.81 lakh, he said.

The passengers were arrested and gold was seized, the official added.
