Three people drown in a creek

Three people, including two women and a 14-year-old girl drowned in the Arabian Sea after they got stuck in the water while returning from a mosque in Dedi village on the outskirts of the city today, a police official said.

"We recovered the bodies of Abidaben Ganibhai (40), Aarzuben Shabbirbhai (14) and Mariyamben (41) from the Arabian Sea in Dedi village some five kms away from the city today," police assistant sub-inspector Magan Chaniyara at G G Hospital area police station said.

The incident took place after ten people of a minority community who went to a mosque, located inside a creek, got stuck during high tide, he said.
 

While, five people managed to save themselves, others were trapped in the water, he said.

Having known about the incident, the police and a fire brigade team rushed to the spot and started rescue operations, he said.

However, only two people identified as Ayaz Abdulbhai (10) and Shabnam Ishaqbhai (16) could be saved, Chaniyara said, adding that both of them were hospitalised at Sir G G Hospital in the city.
