A 55-year-old man was mauled to death by a tiger today when he was working at his farm in Madhotanda area here.

The tiger this afternoon attacked Baburam when he was working at the farm and dragged him to a nearby sugarcane field in Pipriya Santosh village, police said.

"Police and Forest Department officials made efforts to retrieve the body. Shots were also fired in the air to scare off the animal and the body was later recovered, they said, adding the body has been sent for postmortem.

This is the second incident in this month when a tiger from the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve entered a human habitat in Madhotanda.

Last week a tiger had entered a house in Mallapur village and it was tranquilised and captured by forest staff.
