Students of Kendrapara college today staged a demonstration in front of Collector's office here demanding the arrest of culprits involved in dishonouring the national flag on October 31.

A case had been registered against the organisers of a youth 'mahostav', organised on October 31 under the auspices of Sport and Youth Affair Department of the district administration, on the charge of dishonouring the tricolour.

The complaint charged the organisers with holding a dance competition with the flag thrown on the floor of the stage.

"Police are sitting over the matter despite the gravity of the offence. Attempts are being made both by the civil and police administration to cover up the incident as government officials stand accused in the tricolour dishonour case," Satya Ranjan Senapati, President Kendrapara Autonomous College Students' Union, said.

"A case has been registered in this connection under Section 2 (i), Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Act 2005. The matter is being investigated," Kendrapara Police Station Inspector, Pramod Kumar Lenka said.
