The Trinamool Congress today termed as 'ludicrous' Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's description of the ordinance on convicted lawmakers as "complete nonsense".

"This is very ludicrous because Rahul Gandhi is the vice-president of the party which runs the government. How is it that he did not know about the ordinance placed and passed in the Cabinet dominated by the Congress?" Trinamool Congress leader and former Union minister Saugata Roy told PTI here.

Roy said that this showed the Congress in poor light and demonstrated that there does not exist any co-ordination between the government and the party.

Roy, a senior TMC Lok Sabha member, said what Rahul Gandhi said was an exercise in damage control and to lift the image of the party tarnished by the proposal for the ordinance.

Roy said, "President Pranab Mukherjee had also called two Union ministers to explain the ordinance to him."

Reacting to Rahul's comment, TMC MP Derek O' Brien said in jest, "While the Prime Minister is in Washington DC, the Congress party too is in DC (damage control).
