Falling asleep at the wheel while crossing an overbridge on an arterial road today proved near fatal for a truck driver here as the vehicle smashed the parapet wall and came crashing down to the service road below, but no one apart from the driver was injured, police said.
The truck smashed through the parapet wall on Anna Salai and fell on vehicles parked on the service road below before turning turtle, they added.
However, since the accident occurred early in the morning, there was no traffic and no one apart from the driver was hurt, police said.
The driver was later arrested, they added.
