A pavement dweller, who was sleeping on the divider of a road in east Delhi's Okhla, was killed after being run over by a truck laden with iron bars, police said Friday.
The truck first hit a car, then the "unidentified" man, and an auto-rickshaw -- all in one go at 12:21 am at the Okhla red light crossing, they said.
"Police rushed to the spot and found that a truck, laden with iron bars, hit a car in the rear end at the Okhla red light crossing and then hit the divider, leading to the death of an unknown person who was sleeping there," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast)
However, the car occupants and the auto-rickshaw driver escaped unhurt in the accident, he said.
A case has been registered on the statement of the auto-rickshaw driver, the DCP said, adding that the accused truck driver fled the spot.
Efforts are underway to trace the owner of the Haryana-registered truck and nab the accused driver, he said.
The body of the pavement dweller was shifted to AIIMS mortuary and efforts are being made to identify him, he added.
