Two different cases of murder, one at Mumbra and another at Daighar near Mumbra were reported by the Thane city police here today.
In the first incident, a dispute over the smart phone based WhatsApp messaging application led to three friends to come to blows, after which one of them was fatally stabbed around midnight last night, the police said today.
In another incident, a husband beat his wife to death over a suspicion with a wooden plank.

Police inspector Usha Suradkar of the Mumbra police station told PTI that three friends from Mumbra's Achanak Nagar locality fought online over the WhatsApp messaging service application.
Last midnight two of those accused in the first incident, Anil Gupta and Riyad Sayyad, allegedly attacked the victim Imran Ansari in the abdomen with knives, after which he was killed on the spot.
Anil Gupta was arrested, while the main accused Riyaz Sayyed is still at large, the police said.
Offences under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) have been registered against the two, the police said.
In the second incident, one Datta Jadhav (27) who suspected the "character" of his wife Pushpalata (22) allegedly attacked her with a wooden plank, after which he took her to a hospital and told the doctor that she had died due to "snake bite".
However, a post mortem revealed that her death was not due to "snake bite", but due to assault by some hard and blunt object.
Based on the post mortem report, Daighar police inspector Gajanan Kapule arrested the accused Datta and charged him under Section 302 and Section 201 of the IPC, the police said.
