A tourism official of the Uttarakhand government has been arrested here for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 22,000 from a person.

Following the arrest by the vigilance department of state police, a raid was carried out at the official's residence and Rs 6.47 lakh in cash was recovered, an official said today.

Yogendra Kumar Gangwar was arrested from his office following a complaint, Vigilance Director Ashok Kumar said.

A trap was laid before the regional tourism official was arrested while taking the bribe from the complainant, he said.

His arrest was followed up by a raid at his residence in the city from where Rs 6.47 lakh in cash, papers of eight LIC policies and property-related papers were recovered, he said.

Gangwar and his family members held 13 bank accounts in which lakhs of rupees were deposited, Kumar said.

The tourism official had initially demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant who wanted to sign a contract with the regional tourism office under the state government's home stay scheme but had finally settled for an amount of Rs 22,000, Kumar said.
