UP MLA's gunner injured in accidental firing

The official gunner of a Congress MLA was injured in an accidental carbine firing, a senior police officer said here.

The incident occurred yesterday when Congress MLA Madhuri Verma went to receive her husband Dilip Verma released from jail, during which her gunner Shailendra Chaudhary's carbine got fired accidentally, additional superintendent of police (ASP) Sunil Kumar said.

He said that Shailendra sustained bullet injury in his thigh and has been referred to trauma center at Lucknow.

The ASP said that an inquiry into the incident has been ordered.
