UP poll clash: Brothers attacked for refusing to vote

Two brothers were allegedly attacked by a group of five persons for not agreeing to vote for a particular candidate in the upcoming gram pradhan elections at Churaitha village here.

A group of five men led by Ratenesh opened fire at Pradeep and Sandeep yesterday at Churaitha village in Rijor Kotwali area, Rijor Kotwali Station officer Norangi Lal said.

The brother duo had apparently refused to vote for a candidate supported by the assailants in the gram pradhan elections, he said.

A case has been registered against Ratnesh, Indresh, Rajveer, Nand Ram, and Satya Prakash, police said.

The police had arrested two of the accused, Satya Prakash and Nand Ram, but later released them following which the irate villagers gheraoed the police station.
 

The situation was brought under control after the police promised stern action against the accused in the case.

The matter is being investigated, police added.
