Unidentified miscreants were booked for sending fake non-bailable arrest warrants to police that led to a father-son duo, who were innocent, being arrested and sent to jail in connection with a gang rape case here, police said.

A case was registered against the miscreants on Wednesday, they said.

The incident came to light when the victims' lawyer realised that his clients were arrested and sent to jail in a case on fake warrants which were not even issued by the court.

An arrest warrant is an official document, signed by a judge, which authorises a police officer to arrest the persons named in the warrant.

According to Judicial Magistrate Anchal Rana, a fake arrest warrant was sent to police by the unidentified miscreants and police had executed the warrants on two innocent people despite a court having neither issued it nor had any case been pending with them.

An investigation into the cheating case is underway, police said.

It is learnt that the police had arrested Singh and his son by executing the fake warrants and produced them before a duty magistrate on March 9. Anchal Rana, who was presiding as duty magistrate on the day, sent the two men to jail under judicial custody.
