Vegetable market closed in Erode

Wholesale and retail vegetable and fruit shops in the Erode Municipal Nethaji market downed shutters as vendors observed a hartal today protesting sentencing of AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa to a four-year jail term in the disproportionate assets case.

Vendors wore black shirts while fruit and vegetable merchants observed a fast.

Officials said no untoward incident was reported in Erode district.

AIADMK workers staged demonstrations at various places.
