Police today rejected rumours about movement of armed persons in the tourist town, saying ongoing vehicle checks and vigil at check posts were "routine".
Nilgiris District Suprintendent of Police, Senthilkumar said there was no information about the infiltration of any wrongdoers.
However, there was additional police force visible in the strategic locations and places of public concentration.
According to sources, vehicle checks were intensified across the town and the checkposts, including those bordering with Kerala and Karnataka, were alerted following rumours about movement by some armed persons.
