The Delhi Jal Board has decided to scrutinise residential water bills of Rs 25,000 and above before dispatching the same so as to prevent innacurate billing and reduce consumer grievances.
"Pre-scrutiny will be done if the bill is of excessive amount or if water consumption has shown abnormal increase. All bills of Rs 25,000 and above will be scrutinised and rechecked by the officials before they are dispatched to consumers," said a senior DJB officer.
Also, the billing staff has been directed to re-check and show the bill reading to the consumers in cases where the monthly consumption is found to have increased by 300 per cent or more.
This will result in increased awareness on the part of consumers and they will be able to assess pattern of water consumption by them and take appropriate steps to reduce consumption and avoid wastage, the officer said.
