Water supply to Delhi, Noida to be affected

The Ganga Canal will be closed for three weeks due to maintenance work

Water supply to Delhi and several UP districts including Noida would be affected due to maintenance work in Ganga Canal from October 3 to October 24, according to officials.

The canal will be closed for three weeks from October 3 for maintenance work which will affect water supply to Delhi and 19 districts of Uttar Pradesh including Agra, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bulandshar, Ghaziabad, Aligarh and Firozabad, executive engineer of the state irrigation department Ashok Kumar said.

Farmers will face irrigation water shortage and will have to depend on private sources to irrigate their fields, he said.

Meanwhile, the department's sub-divisional officer, Haridwar, M K Singh, said that water supply would be maintained at 'Har ki pauri' for religious purposes during the period.
