Wife of alleged custodial torture victim gets govt job

A compensation of Rs 10 lakh and a government job appointment letter were today handed over to the wife of a 26-year-old man who allegedly died in police custody last month.

S R Sreejith, who was taken into custody in connection with the death of a person, had died in a private hospital. His relatives alleged that he died due to custodial torture.

Police have rejected the allegation saying was suspected to have suffered injuries during a clash before he was taken into custody.

visited Sreejith's residence this morning and handed over the compensation and appointment letter to his wife Akhila B P.

She has been appointed as clerk in the Parvur Taluk office.

Five police personnel -- a circle inspector, a sub-inspector and three members of the (RTF) were arrested in connection with Sreejith's death.

Facing flak from the opposition, the constituted a special investigation team (SIT) headed by IGP S to probe the death.
