Woman accompanying son on hunger strike dies of electric shock

In a tragic incident, a 60 years old woman who was accompanying her son who was on a hunger strike in front of the Zilla Parishad here died due to an electric shock this morning, police said.

She was identified as Vacchhalabai Gedam, resident of the village Nagri near here.

Her son Prabhakar Gedam was on an indefinite hunger strike, sitting in a tent put up in front of the ZP office, for the last three days.

Prabhakar works as a Resource Person with the Education Department of the Zilla Parishad, and was on a hunger strike to press his demand of transfer, police said.
 

Vacchhalabai, who stayed in the tent with him, came in contact with an adjacent electricity pole after she woke up at around 5.30 am today and received a shock. She died on the spot.

Prabhakar was also hospitalised as his health deteriorated subsequently.
