A local court today sentenced a woman and her paramour to five years Rigorous Imprisonment each for abetting the suicide of her husband in Yercaud in 2008.
The prosecution case was that the woman had a relationship with another man and continued it despite being repeatedly warned by her husband, a farmer. He even gave his wife Rs 50,000 to end the relationship.
However, the couple demanded another Rs two lakh and the woman told him that she would file a case for dowry harassment if the money was not given to them.

Following this the man committed suicide on February 16, 2008 after killing his two sons, aged nine and six.
Police then registered a case under IPC Section 306 (abetment to suicide).
District and Sessions Judge Thangavel sentenced the woman, and the man each to five years Rigorous Imprisonment and also slapped a fine of 500 each on them.
