Women's Challenger Chess from tomorrow

Around 130 female chess players, some of them top ranked in the country, will take part in a national level championship commencing here tomorrow.

The 42nd All-India National Women's Challenger Chess Championship has been organised under the auspices of All India Chess Federation (AICF) in association with Thane District Chess Association (TDCA), a media release said today.

Around 130 women, from various states, are expected to participate in the championship. These include top players like Tania Sachdev, Nisha Mohota, Soumya Swaminathan, Mary Ann Gomes, Swati Ghate and Bhakti Kulkarni.

They will be vying for the top honours and to gain the right to represent India in international competitions. The total prize fund for the tournament is Rs 3 lakh.
 

The top 8 finishers will get to play at National Premier, which is likely to be conducted at Darjeeling from October 10.
