Youth attempts rape on minor

A labourer has been booked for allegedly attempting rape on an 8-year-old girl in Khati village of the district when her parents were away.

The girl was lured to a secluded place yesterday by the accused Sheh Mohan (22), who tried to sexually assault her, police said.

A neighbourer, however, noticed it and raised an alarm following which Mohan escaped from the spot, they said, adding that the girl's parents had gone to market when the incident took place.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding accused.
