A strong plea was made by YSR Congress and TDP in the Lok Sabha today to give special category status to Andhra Pradesh which is facing a revenue deficit of Rs 16,000 crore following the bifurcation.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, M Rajmohan Reddy (YSR Congress) said that both Congress and BJP had promised to give special category status to Andhra Pradesh after Telangana was carved out of the state.
He said that only such a status would help Andhra to come out of the financial problem as the bifurcation has turned it into the "most backward" state from the "most forward" one.
Jayadev Gala (TDP) expressed concern over the plight of Andhra Pradesh which has been facing a crisis for more than a decade on the statehood issue. He said that Andhra Pradesh needed the special category status for rebuilding itself.
