230 Killed As Hurricane Hits Ap Coast

Reports indicate a heavy loss of property including standing paddy, sugarcane and banana crops.

Konaseema region of East Godavari district and Kovvur and Narsapur divisions of West Godavari district are the worst hit. This area is known as the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh.

Paddy -- which was ripe for harvest -- has been lost over 2.5 lakh acres, preliminary reports said. Sugarcane and banana over 4 lakh acres in the two districts have been completed destroyed.
