"Though other new technologies, namely cable modems and digital subscriber line (DSL), provide high speed Internet access that are much better than dial-up connections, they can give ideal connectivity only within 1,000 m from the exchange. Bandwidth manageability in these technologies is also very poor. These difficulties have been successfully overcome in the wireless technology," claimed Venkat S Meenavalli, managing director, Applogic Systems, at a press conference here.
In the US, leading DSL company Time Warner promised a speed of one mega byte per second (mbps) but were able to provide just above nine kilo bytes per second, said Venkat.
According to him, a 64 kilobyte per second connection from Applogic costs Rs 12,000 per annum, whereas a leased line from other Internet service providers costs approximately Rs 40,000. A DSL connection costs around the same amount. "With an increase in our connections, we will further try to reduce the cost to consumers," Venkat said.
