Aptech Ltd, the computer education division of the Apple group, is planning a strategic alliance with the Dawood group of companies of Pakistan to enter the computer education sector in Pakistan. Once approval is given for the alliance, the Rs 163-crore Mumbai-based company will be the first computer education company in India to venture into the computer education sector in Pakistan.

Atul Nishar, chairman of the company, told Business Standard yesterday that while the talks between the two parties had begun, the exact nature of the joint venture was yet to be decided.

The company is likely to consider the franchise route, said Nishar, as it had worked very well in India.

It is presently operating in south-east Asia and in the Middle East.

However, it is also making a foray in the US and European markets. Aptech recently acquired the Reserve Bank of Indias approval for setting up a wholly owned subsidiary in the United States. The company is also in the process of setting up a joint venture in Ireland.

Computer education is Aptechs core competency. The company has gained from its policy of franchising and has around 640 centres in India and abroad. The Aptech education support services have grown over the last ten years providing uniform services all over the world. It claims to be the largest chain of franchise education networks in Asia.
