Bis Quality Scheme For Food Industry

BSCAL

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has launched a certification scheme for the food industry which will considerably enhance the marketability of Indian food products in the global market. The scheme, known as the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification scheme and based on ISO-15000 standards, meets all international requirements as laid down in the Codex Alimentarius commissions standards, a BIS release said here yesterday. The scheme acts as a complement to the ISO-9000 quality systems standards. Certification under both the schemes can be taken simultaneously through the same quality audits, the statement said. Major food importing countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US are emphasising for certification under the HACCP scheme for products like meat, poultry, fruits and vegetables and processed foods.
