Bjp: Laloos Scam Money Stashed Away In Mauritius

THE HINDUSTAN TIMES

THE BIHAR Bharatiya Janata Party unit today alleged that Mr Yadav was operating a bank account in Mauritius and urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the matter for submitting supplementary charge sheet in the disproportionate assets case.

The party even said it will furnish the details of the bank account within a few days.

The allegation comes a day after it was revealed that the Governor had sanctioned the prosecution of Mr Laloo Yadav in the disproportionate assets case. State BJP general secretary Saryu Rai, talking to newsmen, said the RJD chief had sent the fodder scam money through hawala to 'tax heaven' countries and subsequently transferred the amount to a Mauritius bank.

He said a huge amount was withdrawn during the 1998, '99 and 2000 elections from this account and a Bombay businessman had even paid the tax against these withdrawals.

The BJP leader also said the party would publish a fact paper listing the details of Mr Laloo Yadav's involvement in the fodder scam and the related developments in the past three years.

He went on to say that the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief was now trying hard to establish that the charges against him were not serious and were politically motivated.

Mr Rai said that the disproportionate assets case was instituted as a fallout of the Supreme Court directive and the BJP government had nothing to do with it. In fact, the first time the RJD chief went to jail, the United Front government was at the Centre, he pointed out.

He said that the state Government should cooperate with the Central Bureau of Investigation as it had given an undertaking to do so in the Supreme Court.

BJP national executive member Ravishankar Prasad, who was also present during the Press conference, said it was strange that Mr Laloo Yadav and other Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders were holding out threats against the CBI, when the RJD chief had assured the Supreme Court that he would cooperate with the investigating agency in the probe.

Mr Prasad said the matter would be brought to the notice of the Supreme Court by his party.

Asserting that no formal approval of the Speaker was required in chargesheeting Chief Minister Rabri Devi as the co accused in the DA case, Mr Prasad said she was only a housewife when the CBI had chargesheeted the Rashtriya Janata Dal president in 1998.

Besides, being accused as an abettor under section 109 of the Indian Penal Code, no sanction was required to charge sheet her, he stated.

Among others who were present during the Press conference included party secretary Giriraj, spokeperson Kiran Ghai and Samata Party spokesman P K Sinha.
