Dawood Shoes To Be Auctioned Tomorrow

BSCAL

Over 80,000 shoes manufactured by the Dawood group of companies belonging to former city sheriff Sadruddin Daya, who is the prime accused in the cobblers scam, would be auctioned in Mumbai on December 12.

Shoes worth over Rs 33.66 crore from about 22 shops would be auctioned following chief metropolitan magistrate M N Gilanis December 1 order.

Whether the money generated during the auction would be forfeited or handed over to Daya depends on the court, additional commissioner of police S P S Yadav said yesterday.

The shoes would be put on sale on an as-is-where-is basis by the auctioneers, Bennett and Company, tomorrow.

The court had also ordered one official of the rank of registrar and a police official to be present during the auction.

The order was passed by the Gilani after Daya moved an application saying the shoes were damaged as all his shops were sealed by the economic offences wing following unearthing of the scam.

The total book value of the shoes is Rs 33,66,22,825 and their present value was Rs 1,67,98,198.

While shops of other accused were reopened following a Mumbai High Court order, Dayas shops remained shut since the property where the shops stand either belonged to him or his son Sohin, who was absconding.
