Drdo Wants 30% Military Hardware Contracts

BSCAL

The aim is to start off with work sharing for sub-systems and indigenise all improvements to Indian weaponry within the next 10 years by progressively increasing the percentage of locally made systems in the upgradation packages.

Upgradation of MiG fighters, tanks, battleships, weapons and others have been pending for the last 10 years and western firms are eying this market eagerly.

Unlike new sales, upgradation proposals get pushed early and this is an important reason for western firms to bid eagerly for this kind of work.

DRDO chief Abdul Kalam said all important systems in aircraft, tanks and other hardware should come from the DRDO through technology transfer deals with the original suppliers.

DRDOs latest success is the electronic warfare and avionics suite for the Sukhoi-30 fighters which it developed with help from the Russians.
