Kalam Urges Greater Quality Consciousness

Greater consciousness for integration of quality measures at various levels in an organisation can help provide the best possible service to users, A P J Abdul Kalam, advisor to the defence minister, said here yesterday.

Presenting the ISO-9002: 1994 certificate to Internal Financial Advisor of Border Roads Organisation for excellence in quality system standard, he said quality should percolate to all aspects of the organisation from production, installation to the final product or service.

Appreciating Internal Financial for achieving the distinction and setting a trend for other defence financial institutions, Kalam urged it to set even higher goals to scale new heights.

 

Border Roads director general Lt Gen R J Mordecai said it was Internal Financials vision which helped his organisation to bring far flung remote border areas into the national mainstream.

Internal Financial has helped us immensely in making us cost conscious through streamlining procedures and establishing accountability at all levels, Mordecai said.

He said although the present scope of this quality certification was limited to vetting of estimates for execution of works and procurement action, I want to request Internal Financial to encompass all its activities under the scrutiny of ISO certification so that it becomes a trendsetter for all defence financial institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, regional manager of the organisation issuing the certificate, Ashok Balwani said when a service organisation like Border Roads is given an ISO certificate it indicated that the economy was progressing.

Appreciating Internal Financial for achieving the certification in a short span of time, he said it would help them to set for themselves even greater standards to attain new landmarks in quality excellence.

Financial advisor (defence services) Sivasubramanian, controller general of defence accounts N Gopalan, additional secretary ministry of defence P M Nair were among those who were present at the function.
