But the sharp rise in turnover is simply because of last years low base. In 1995-96, operations were severely affected due to a strike at its Pune plant for 70 days between August and November 1995. Consequently, the company had showed a decline in net profit by 13 per cent though sales were marginally higher by 7 per cent.

However, last year saw operations at full capacity with the earlier disputes settled through a wage agreement with its employees and the German parent KSB showing more emphasis to the Indian operations.

The net profit would have been still higher, if the interest burden and had not gone

 

up by 192.2 per cent to Rs 6.75 crore. The increase in tax liability by 146.66 per cent to Rs 12.95 crore further affected the bottomline.
