Maharashtra Governor P C Alexander yesterday announced a separate allocation of Rs 1100 crore for the removal of backlog in development of Vidarbha, Marathwada and the rest of Maharashtra during 1998-99. Delivering his customary address at a joint sitting of both houses of the state legislature on the opening day of the budget session, the Governor also declared that he had directed his government to allocate an additional Rs 100 crore for special programmes undertaken by statutory development boards for the three regions. The development boards, set up under provisions in article 371 of the Constitution, function under direct supervision of the Governor.
