Mitsubishis Lancer To Roll Out In 1998

Mitsubishis Lancer, a 1468 cc Sedan model, will be launched in India by the first quarter of 1998. Hindustan Motors, the C K Birla promoted company, will manufacture the car at its Thiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to Business Standard, a Mitsubishi Motors executive said the Lancer will be priced at Rs 6.3 lakh in India.

Hindustan Motors sources, however, said the final market price has not been worked out yet, but it is expected to be pegged a little higher than DCM Daewoos Cielo GLE ( approximately Rs 6.5 lakh).Company sources said about 8,000 cars will be produced in the first year (1998). The production figure is expected to go up to 24,000 cars a year by the turn of the century.

 

The standard features of the 180 km per hour Lancer are a power steering, central door locking, power window and side impact bars. Lancer offers advanced suspension system with the long stroke of the McPherson strut front suspension and independent multi-link rear suspension, which gives the car better maneuverability and roadholding.

C K Birla has offered 10 per cent equity in Hindustan Motors to Mitsubishi Motors.

Sources said the Japanese company has already placed a proposal to pick up equity.
