Mitsui Babcock Eyes $100m Turnover

The chief executive officer of Mitsui Babcock Energy Ltd (MBEL), Duncan G Cox, said the Indian subsidiary was preparing itself to play an active role in providing the country's economy with the latest designs in steam-generating plants for power generation and industrial boilers.
The company had shortlisted a few companies in the country for sourcing some of its equipment.
The equipment could be exported to third countries where the company is engaged in setting up major generating capacities. Because of the company age-old association with India, it was in a better position to appreciate this country's needs and constraints, said Cox.
The company is now offering to supply and install the boilers and auxiliary plants, including the coal and ash handling equipment for the construction of power stations on a turnkey basis.
MBEL has been working in India for more than 30 years during which time a wide range of boilers have been built for industrial and power generation purposes.
The company has designed boilers to burn a variety of domestic coal and other fossil fuels, by-products of industrial processes and biomass, Cox said.
With the establishment of ACC-Vickers-Babcock Ltd in West Bengal, which was renamed ACC-Babcock Ltd in the Sixties, a series of power boilers with 120mw and 210mw capacity were supplied to India. As ABL has now been taken over by Asea Brown Bover, it was decided by MBEL to form a fully owned subsidiary in India.
