Ndmc Contractor Arrested By Cbi

In a series of raids on Saturday, the New Delhi branch of the CBI arrested Awaninder Singh, a private contractor engaged with the NDMC and seized Rs 3.33 crore worth of cash and fixed deposit receipts from him. Documents relating to investments in land and other properties were also seized.
The other person arrested in the case has been identified as P R Singh, brother-in-law of the main accused. The two have been accused of embezzlement of government money, which had been received towards payment of electricity and water charges. As a result of the shortcoming in the system of billing and collection, a number of consumers were both undercharged and overcharged. This seems to have been exploited by the two accused.
CBI director Joginder Singh told newspersons that former NDMC special officer Baleshwar Rai had been called by the investigating agency for questioning. The CBI director said that among the seizures were two FDRs worth $100,000 with a bank based in California in the name of Awanider Singh and his wife Poonam. He said the two accused managed to embezzle Rs 9.78 lakh between September 20 and September 27 from the Palika Bhawan centre. The accused have been remanded to CBI custody till October 5.
