Oil Vapour Recovery System Developed

Two Mumbai-based research organisations have developed a novel oil vapour recovery system to check air pollution and cut down oil wastage in the textile industry.
The Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA) and the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), have jointly put up a plant at Domvili in Thane district to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new system.
They claimed the device can recover, up to 80 per cent, the oil vapour which otherwise pollutes the air.

The recovered oil can be reused, thus saving oil and cutting down on wastage and expenditure.
It is for the first time that such a system has been devised in India, the researchers said.
The textile industry consumes 120 million litres of kerosene annually, to work as a thickener during printing of cotton fabrics.
When the cloth is dried on machine dryers, the kerosene transforms into vapour and pollutes the air, which is harmful for human beings and the environment.
