Pivotals Gain As Institutional Support Lifts Sentiment

Buying support at lower levels by FIIs and to some extent domestic institutions boosted trading sentiment on the BSE yesterday. The Sensex closed 4,154.28, gaining 29.47 points over the previous close of 4,124.81 points.

The BSE-100 stood at 1,803.40 points over the previous close of 1,791.93 points, gaining 11.47 points. The BSE-200 and the Dollex were quoted up at 401.68 and 187.32 as compared to the previous close of 399 and 186.02, gaining 2.68 and 1.12 points respectively.

Activity remained restricted to the specified group with Bajaj Auto and Larsen & Toubro figuring among the major gainers of the day. The Bajaj Auto scrip edged up by Rs 42.25 to end the day at Rs 922.25.

 

The L&T scrip gained Rs 16 to close at Rs 263.25. Other gainers included Tata Power (+Rs 10.50). Tata Chemicals(+Rs 14) and SmithKline Beecham Consumer Products(+Rs 8).

Marketmen said that the stay order on Laloo Prasads arrest came as a breather to the market and the sentiment kept strengthening from then on.

Among the second line of stocks, the notable gainers included Dabur(+Rs 11.25), Esab India(+Rs 4.25) and Finolex Cables(+Rs 6.25). The major losers included Lakme which lost Rs 12.75 to close at Rs 413 and HDFC which continued to lose ground at Rs 3,895, down by Rs 28.

In the B1 group, the Infosys scrip took a beating on the news that the FII limit in the scrip had been scaled. The scrip closed at Rs 1,954.25, down by Rs 112.25.

In the same group, the Knoll pharma scrip touched its 52-week high of Rs 890, but failed to sustain gains. The scrip closed at Rs 846, up Rs 7. Trading in the

CMC scrip remained suspended for the second successive trading day as there were no sellers in the counter.
