The $6 billion Seiko Epson Corporation of Japan has entered into a collaboration with Wipro Systems for software development in India.

The software development division of Wipro Infotech group will exclusively design customised software for Seiko Epson for its global operations.

The software developed by Wipro would be used by Epson for use in the manufacture of its inkjet printers.

The company has also decided to extend its partnership with Wipro Peripherals for manufacturing inkjet printers in India.

Epson, which has completed ten years of partnership with Wipro in producing dot matrix printers in the Indian market, said it would soon enter into a fresh technical collaboration with Wipro for manufacturing its inkjet printers.

Announcing the expansion of Wipro's manufacturing facility in Mysore for printers, Yuji Yamazaki, senior managing director, Seiko Epson Corporation, said the successful branding of Epson printers in India would soon lead to more such projects in association with Wipro.

Ram N Agarwal, president, peripherals division, Wipro Infotech group, said that the division is all set to cross the four lakh mark in the manufacturing of printers during the next month.

The division has also sold over one lakh printers during 1996-97, he said.

Both the companies also announced the launch of the high-end Epson 1440 dots per inch (DPI) photo-quality colour inkjet printers in India. Wipro has invested around Rs 2.5 crore in the expansion programme in Mysore.
