Kim Dae-jung, 74, the veteran South Korean opposition leader, Monday became the first candidate to be nominated for the nations presidential election in December. The head of the centre-left National Congress for New Politics (NCNP) will be making a record fourth attempt for the presidency, but opinion polls suggest he will have a tough time achieving the first peaceful transfer of power to the opposition since South Korea was established in 1948.
