San Miguel Corporation is holding talks with Associated Breweries & Distilleries Pvt Ltd (ABD) for picking up a stake in the company.

"We are in talks with each other for picking up an equity stake in our company," ABD director Zenia Lawyer said at the sidelines of a press conference to announce the launch of San Miguel beer in Karnataka.

At present, ABD has a licensing arrangement with San Miguel for brewing and distributing the brand in India.

The beer is being brewed at the company's Navi Mumbai plant under technical supervision of San Miguel brewers. Lawyer said that the company's Navi Mumbai brewery had an annual production capacity of around 200,000 hectolitres.

 

San Miguel is one of the largest food, beverage and packaging companies in the Philippines. Beer accounts for 46 per cent of consolidated sales of the company. San Miguel beer is among the world's top 20 largest selling beer brands and among the top three in Asia. San Miguel is a medium-dry lager and has a complex malt aroma.

San Miguel will be available for Rs 40 for a 650 ml bottle
