Tn Minister Flays Bjp Stand On Cauvery

A national water policy is not a remedy for problems concerning inter-state river water sharing, as proclaimed in the BJP-led coalitions national agenda, Tamil Nadu public works and irrigation minister Durai Murugan said in the state Assembly yesterday. He said the agenda claimed that the policy to be formulated would lead to effective and prompt resolution of inter-state water disputes and spoke about time-bound implementation of solutions. In reality, only the Inter-state Water Disputes Act, 1956, could provide such effective and prompt resolution, Murugan said, and had a dig at the AIADMK for not getting included in the national agenda any assurance on notifying the draft scheme prepared by the Centre to ensure implementation of the Cauvery tribunals interim award of June 1991.
