HelloSoft solutions to power 15 dual-mode mobile handsets

HelloSoft, a supplier of signal processing technology and software defined radio solutions for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), WiFi, cellular and other converged markets, expects its solutions to be in 15 dual-mode mobile handset models by the end of this year. The company's VoIP solution will also be used in Skype WiFi phones.
 
Addressing the media, Ron Victor, general manager, marketing and business development, HelloSoft, said, "Dual mode phones combine WiFi and cellular technology. We expect 15 of such handset models to have our solutions by the end of this year."
 
Dual mode phones are designed to use WiFi network where available and cellular network elsewhere, thus bringing in savings for the end-user. Analysts forecast that by 2010, there will be 100 million to 350 million dual mode phones in the market. "We are eyeing market share of 40 per cent by 2010," Victor said.
 
Meanwhile, HelloSoft has also announced that its VoIP solution will be used in Skype WiFi mobile phones.
 
VoIP is basically transmission of voice traffic over IP-based networks and Skype WiFi phones will enable users to use the Internet phone anytime and anywhere without having to depend on a computer. It offers free domestic and international calls to other Skype users.
 
The handset is learnt to cost around $300. HelloSoft's solutions are developed out of its Hyderabad centre that employs more than 150 people.
