The Nasscom, the trade body of the Indian IT software and services companies, in association with Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has initiated a survey on the status of women employees in the IT industry and to identify the avenues for their growth.

The report will be ready in five-six weeks. "It will focus on additional measures to be taken by the industry to empower women employees and to create opportunities to absorb more of them increasingly," Nasscom President Kiran Karnik told reporters on the sidelines of the 'IT Women Leadership Summit', today.

The survey is also aimed at creating an environment conducive for women to grow equally at their workplace.

"It is a survey of what the IT industry does and can do more in terms of attitudes, perception and best practices for an inclusive growth. Women are a key and vital part of a progressive industry, which promotes gender diversity and empowerment," Karnik added.

The study will seek information from women employees across the industry to ascertain their assessment of HR policies, and work conditions/load and scope for professional advancement in their respective organisations. "For instance, the penetration of women at the management level is still inadequate," he noted.

Even at top levels, women representation is disproportionate to the number of their tribe in service," he noted.
