Girish Paranjpe, the former joint CEO of Wipro’s information technology business, is understood to be joining global consulting company Ernst & Young in a global role, said two sources in the know.

Paranjpe resigned from Wipro in January after 21 years of service. He headed the banking, financial services and insurance division at Wipro. Sources said Paranjpe did not want to continue with the IT industry after he left Wipro.

However, the report could not be confirmed independently by Business Standard.

When asked, Paranjpe said: "I would not like to comment." He has called a press conference in Bangalore tomorrow, where he is expected to announce his future plans.

"E&Y had got in touch with Paranjpe and even he was keen to join the team. But for some reasons, the discussions went cold. He might have now made up his mind," said a source on condition on anonymity.

"Paranjpe was considering two offers. One was from Capgemini and the other was from E&Y. But joining Capgemini is difficult, as he was not interested in the IT industry," said another source.

“He had some serious discussion with E&Y and last week flew to the US to have a final discussion. E&Y was also very keen to have him on board,” said the sources. They, however, said there might have been some last-minute changes.

Suresh Vaswani, who was Joint CEO of Wipro with Paranjpe (they quit together), has joined Dell as chairman of India operations and executive vice-president of the company's global application and business process outsourcing services business.
