PC mart crosses 5-mn shipment

The domestic personal computer (PC) market has crossed the 5-million shipments mark, recording 25 per cent year-on-year growth.
 
The notebook PC segment too witnessed 104 per cent year-on-year growth, touching the 1-million mark in shipments. IDC's India Quarterly PC Tracker (fourth quarter) states that in the Client PC (notebooks and desktops) market, HP leads with a market share of 21 per cent, followed by HCL at 14 per cent, and Lenovo at 9 per cent in terms of unit shipments.
 
HP leads the desktop PC market, followed by HCL and Lenovo. HCL and HP jointly share the top spot in commercial desktop PC shipments in 2006, followed by Lenovo. In terms of total consumer desktop PC shipments for 2006, HP leads the market, followed by HCL and LG Electronics.
 
In the total notebook PC market, HP retained the top spot with a market share of 38 per cent in 2006 in unit shipments. Lenovo and Toshiba were at second and third spots with 17 per cent and 10 per cent market share, respectively.
 
IDC India PC Research Manager Piyush Pushkal said, "The year 2006 witnessed 3 per cent growth in average selling values of desktops, thanks to increased adoption of LCD/TFT monitors and other accessories."
