The world table tennis body suspended "all activities" until the end of April on Friday, joining a long list of sporting casualties of the new coronavirus outbreak.
The International Table Tennis Federation suspension, from Monday, affects a number of tournaments around the world, as well as training and promotional activities.
"Following the declaration by the World Health Organization of COVID-19 as a pandemic and the increased number of international travel restrictions, the ITTF has decided to suspend all activities provisionally, with the health and safety of athletes, coaches, officials and fans as the top priority," a statement said.
Sports from football to basketball and badminton have been hit by the outbreak, with a swathe of competitions put on hold less than five months before the Tokyo Olympics.

Dana Zatopkova, the 1952 Olympic javelin champion and wife of four-time Olympic champion Emil Zatopek, died at the age of 97 on Friday, the Czech Olympic Committee said.
"Czech sport has lost one of its greatest personalities," the Committee said in a statement.
Besides the gold from the Helsinki Olympics, Zatopkova won the Olympic silver in Rome in 1960.
In 1958, she set the world record of 55.73 metres at the age of 35. She became the European champion in 1954 and 1958.
Zatopkova was born on September 19, 1922, and shared the same birthday with her husband Emil Zatopek, the 1948 Olympic running champion over 10,000 metres, who went on to win the 5000m and 10000m races and the marathon at the Helsinki games in 1952.
Zatopek died in 2000.

Kenya announced its first confirmed case of coronavirus on Friday, saying a woman who returned from the United States tested positive for the illness in Nairobi.
"I want to inform you that the Ministry of Health has confirmed the first coronavirus case in Kenya," Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe told reporters.
"The case is a Kenyan citizen who travelled back to Nairobi, returning from the United States of America via London, United Kingdom, on March 5, 2020."
The woman's temperature had returned to normal and she was stable and recovering in isolation, he said.
It is the first confirmed case of the new coronavirus in the East African region.

A senior Australian politician tested positive for the new coronavirus and entered hospital quarantine on Friday, days after returning from a meeting in Washington attended by US Attorney General William Barr.
"This morning I woke up with a temperature and sore throat," said Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, an influential member of the government and a key architect of Australia's controversial immigration laws.
"It is the policy of Queensland Health that anyone who tests positive is to be admitted into hospital and I have complied with their advice."
Dutton said he feels "fine" but his diagnosis will raise concerns about whether other members of the cabinet and Prime Minister Scott Morrison may have been infected.
It is not yet known when Dutton contracted the virus.

Chinese champions Guangzhou Evergrande hit their Brazilian winger Fernandinho with a whopping three-million-yuan ($430,000) fine on Friday because he "seriously violated" team rules.
Fabio Cannavaro's Guangzhou said in a statement that Fernandinho "refused to follow the club and head coach's arrangements" during pre-season training in Dubai.
Guangzhou, the most successful club in Chinese Super League (CSL) history and two-time Asian champions, declined to give further details.

Malaysia's football leagues will be suspended from next week to avoid spreading the new coronavirus, officials said Friday.
This weekend's fixtures will be played behind closed doors, they added after emergency talks hosted by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
"Monday onwards all leagues and competitions under Malaysian Football League and Football Association of Malaysia will be postponed until further notice," FAM secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam told AFP.
Malaysia has recorded 149 coronavirus cases, although 26 of them have recovered and been discharged.

US President Donald Trump late Thursday praised Tokyo's Olympic preparations and their "magnificent" venue just hours after he suggested delaying the Summer Games for up to a year due to the coronavirus.

The firm announced on February 1 that it would shut all its stores, corporate offices and contact centres across the mainland as the epidemic rapidly spread.

Australia on Friday warned citizens the coronavirus pandemic is now so widespread that they should reconsider all foreign travel, as the government stepped up measures to slow the spread of the disease.
"We now advise all Australians to reconsider your need to travel overseas at this time, regardless of your destination, age or health," Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.
The government had previously advised against travel to regional epicentres in China, Italy, South Korea and Iran.
