The Supreme Court on Friday said it will lay down the law on the issue of high courts revoking orders dictated in open courts after the top court came across a case in which the Madras HC quashed a money laundering case against a former IPS officer and later modified its direction and reheard the matter.
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih stayed the  proceedings in a money laundering case against former IPS officer M S Jaffer Sait registered in connection with an alleged illegal allotment of a Tamil Nadu Housing Board plot.
The top court posted the matter for hearing on November 22.
The apex court was hearing a plea filed by Sait, who contended that his case was reheard within days after allowing his plea for quashing of the proceedings in the matter.
The SC bench had earlier sought report from from the Madras High Court's Registrar General on the issue.

New Delhi [India], October 4: GenX PV India, a pioneer in split junction box manufacturing with integrated diodes, has announced plans to establish a fully integrated aluminium frame manufacturing facility in Raipur by early next year. The facility will produce 18,000 metric tons of aluminium annually, catering to Indian solar panel manufacturers and reducing reliance on imports from China. This facility will provide end-to-end solutions, including extrusion, anodising, and cutting, enhancing GenX PV's ability to manufacture aluminium frames in-house.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the Indian arm of South Korean automaker Hyundai, is expected to launch its much-awaited Rs 25,000-crore initial share-sale for public subscription on October 14, people familiar with the development said on Thursday.
This would be the largest initial public offering (IPO) in India after LIC's initial share sale of Rs 21,000 crore.
According to the Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) filed in June, Hyundai Motor India's proposed IPO is entirely an Offer-for-Sale (OFS) of 142,194,700 equity shares by promoter Hyundai Motor Company, with no fresh issue component.
Sources had previously stated that the South Korean automaker is looking to raise at least USD 3 billion (about Rs 25,000 crore) through an initial share sale.
This development marks a significant milestone for the Indian industry, as it is the first automaker's initial share sale in over two decades, following Japanese automaker Maruti Suzuki's listing in 2003.
