Charlie Munger, who helped Warren Buffett build Berkshire Hathaway into an investment powerhouse, has died. He was 99.
Munger's death was confirmed in a statement from the company, which said he died Tuesday at a California hospital.
Munger served as Buffett's sounding board on investments and business decisions and helped lead Berkshire as its vice chairman for decades.
Munger preferred to stay in the background and let Buffett be the face of Berkshire, and he often downplayed his contributions to the company's remarkable success.
But Buffett always credited Munger with pushing him beyond his early value investing strategies to buy great businesses.
"Charlie has taught me a lot about valuing businesses and about human nature," Buffett said in 2008.

Russia has added the spokesman of US technology company Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, to a wanted list, according to an online database maintained by the country's interior ministry.
Russian state agency Tass and independent news outlet Mediazona first reported that Meta communications director Andy Stone was included on the list Sunday, weeks after Russian authorities in October classified Meta as a "terrorist and extremist" organisation, opening the way for possible criminal proceedings against Russian residents using its platforms.
The interior ministry's database doesn't give details of the case against Stone, stating only that he is wanted on criminal charges. Meta didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

India is targeting enrolling half a million foreign students by 2047, Niti Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said on Wednesday.
Subrahmanyam made the comments while addressing the 18th FICCI Higher Education Summit. He also said technology is going to "blow up" the higher education sector and the universities have to embrace Artificial Intelligence in a big way to stay relevant and competitive.
"NITI Aayog is preparing a vision document for 2047 and education has a separate role in it. Fair trade regulator Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Wednesday cleared Atlas 2022 Holdings' additional stake acquisition in Vodafone Group Plc.
Atlas 2022 Holdings is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Telecommunications Group Company PJSC (formerly known as Etisalat Group).
The combination relates to Atlas 2022 Holdings Ltd's proposal to increase its voting rights/shareholding in Vodafone from 14.6 per cent to less than 25 per cent in Vodafone Group Plc.
"CCI approves the proposed acquisition by Atlas 2022 Holdings Limited to increase its shareholding in Vodafone from 14.6% to less than 25% in Vodafone Group Plc," according to a post by the competition watchdog on social media platform X on Wednesday.
Vodafone is a British telecommunications operator which provides mobile and fixed-line connectivity services, to customers predominantly across Europe, Africa and Asia.
