Indian judoka Tulika Mann crashed out of the women's +78kg event at the Paris Olympics after going down in the opening round to London Games champion Idalys Ortiz of Cuba here on Friday. The 25-year-old from Delhi, a silver medallist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, lost to the Cuban, who has four Olympic medals including two silver and a bronze, 0-10 by ippon at the Champ-de-Mars Arena. The contest between Tulika, who lost her father when she was a two-year-old and is a single child of a widowed mother, and Ortiz lasted just 28 seconds as the decorated Cuban trapped the Indian in a chokehold. National pistol coach Samaresh Jung was a bewildered man within hours of landing back in India from the Paris Olympics after discovering that the house he considered his home for nearly 75 years is an "illegal construction" and he had just 48 hours to vacate it. Jung, who was nicknamed 'goldfinger' at the peak of his prowess after fetching an astonishing seven gold, five silver and two bronze medals in the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games, said he needs at least two months to pack up and leave. "This was a property we were staying on for the last 75 years. In 1978, the land and structure was leased out to a Mr Singh and we have been paying rent to him since then," a hassled Jung told PTI. "The L&DO (Land and Development Office) served us a notice only yesterday. In fact, I came to know about it one hour after reaching home from Paris," he revealed. Olympics 2024: Sift, Anjum fail to qualify for women's 50m 3P finals

Indian shooters Anjum Moudgil and Sift Kaur Samra failed to qualify for the final of the women's 50m rifle 3 positions event, finishing 18th and 31st respectively at the Paris Olympics here on Thursday. Appearing in his second Olympics, Anjum managed to score 584 with 26 inner 10s, while Sift shot 575 with the help of 22 inner 10s in the qualifications of the women's 3P event. Sift, the reigning Asian Games champion, endured a horrendous outing in standing, shooting 93 and 94 to finish down in the pecking order. The kneeling stage saw her get 193 and while she looked to come back with a 195 in prone, a poor 187 in the standing series pushed her down. For Sift, this was a far cry from her excellent outing in the Asian Games last year when she registered a qualification score of 594 in Hangzhou, where she won the top prize with the then world record score of 469.6.
