Operations normal now: Alliance Air as pilots call off strike after 2 days

Alliance Air on Wednesday said flight operations have normalised now after a section of pilots, who were on strike for the last two days, resumed work. On Monday and Tuesday, around 70-80 pilots went on strike to protest against non-restoration of salaries to the pre-COVID level and non-payment of allowances, among other issues. Alliance Air CEO Vineet Sood on Wednesday told PTI that pilots have come back to work. He also said that negotiations are going on with the pilots regarding the issues raised by them. In a statement, Alliance Air said flights suffered major disruptions as a section of pilots en masse reported sick in the last two days. "We are now pleased to inform that the operations have normalised and flights are operating as per schedule," the statement said. On Tuesday, sources said the airline has issued notices to the striking pilots and has also asked them to join back for duty. State-owned Alliance Air, which was earlier part of the now-privatised Air India, has

Ensure airlines do not practice predatory pricing: Parl panel tells govt

A parliamentary panel has asked the civil aviation ministry to cap the upper and lower levels of airfares, and ensure that predatory pricing mechanism is not adopted by the airlines under the cloak of free market economy. "A perfect balance has to be maintained between the commercial interest of the private airlines and the interest of the passengers so as to enable the private airlines to grow and at the same time the interest of passengers should also be kept in mind, so that they are not fleeced in the garb of commercialisation," the panel said. The recommendations have been made by the Department -related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture in its report on the ministry's demand for grants for 2023-24. The report was tabled in Parliament on Monday. Among others, there have been complaints about sudden surge in air ticket prices during peak travel seasons. Biden administration sues to block JetBlue from buying Spirit Airlines

The Biden administration sued on Tuesday to block JetBlue Airways' $3.8 billion purchase of Spirit Airlines, saying the deal would reduce competition and drive up air fares for consumers. The Justice Department said the tie-up would especially hurt cost-conscious travellers who depend on Spirit to find cheaper options than they can find on JetBlue and other airlines. Attorney General Merrick Garland was scheduled to hold a news conference to announce the lawsuit a sign of the importance that the administration places on stopping further consolidation in the airline industry. JetBlue and Spirit have anticipated the government challenge for weeks. The government had previously requested additional documents and depositions about JetBlue's proposal to buy Spirit, the nation's biggest budget airline. Negotiations over a possible settlement failed. The Justice Department said in the lawsuit, filed in federal district court in Boston, that the deal would end direct competition between .
